Alone At Sunset: Weekly Photo Challenge – Solitude

“This week, show us what being alone means to you.”

Solitude is air and water and sunlight to me. That is hyperbole, yes, but I say it anyway. Without daily periods of solitude, I wilt. Alone with a book or with my camera, inside my home or somewhere outside. I relish the time I spend on my own.

And sometimes I see solitude reflected back at me. This American kestrel on a lamp post at sunset, for example.kestrel-on-lamp-post

From My Roof: Weekly Photo Challenge – Local

An important part of local for me is the house I’ve lived in for more than a quarter of a century in Kingston. Mornings and evenings I go up on the roof. I sit. I look around. I think. It’s a good vantage point for observing things both near and far. And sometimes I take photos.

From An Airplane Window…

I don’t normally take a window seat on an airplane, much preferring the freedom of movement promised by an aisle seat. On this flight I was at the window, and nature provided a spectacular show.

It was raining when we took off, but was a relatively smooth flight once we got above the clouds.

For much of the journey, the view from the window was within the range of normal spectacular…clouds of various types…IMG_3279Then, about two-thirds of the way, the setting sun took over the sky and the view became truly spectacular!IMG_3319I gazed out of the window for most of the rest of the flight…IMG_3341Eventually things returned to “normal”…IMG_3345And we landed.IMG_3360When they said there was no in-flight entertainment on this trip, they were wrong.

Just One Sunset…

Every night the sun goes down. And sometimes, like tonight, I go on the roof to watch. At first it looked as if it would be a pretty routine sunset.

As time passed, however, some interesting shadows were being thrown up from behind a bank of clouds.

Which became even more pronounced as time went by.

And more colourful.

Eventually things returned to a more conventional view.

Behind me, the clouds were a softer pink, with the breadfruit and ackee trees silhouetted against the sky.

Finally, night…
