Report of the Constitutional Reform Committee Tabled in Parliament

The report of the Constitutional Reform Committee – once secret, embargoed and then leaked – was tabled in Parliament yesterday (May 21, 2024) as White Paper 1/2024 of the Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, which now makes it available to the public.

However, I have checked the Ministry website and it isn’t posted there. Nor is it posted on the Road to Republic website or the Office of the Prime Minister website. It also isn’t posted on Parliament’s website. Again this signals to me the general lack of focus on making information available to the public. A press release from OPM yesterday alerted the media and public that the report would be tabled, and announced that a public education campaign about its contents would be launched in the coming weeks. But the simplest of steps in making the report immediately available was not taken…posting it online on the official websites. Why not make best use of the heightened public interest?

I am disappointed, but not surprised, as they say.
